Article to Freedom on Rada

Attached for your information is a copy of the article written for Svoboda regarding this year's Rada at Soyuzivka.  We need a picture of the whole kurin to submit along with it.  Does anyone have a copy of one of the pictures Teresa was taking from the balcony roof of Kiev? Diakuyu!

To All Spartanky Seniorky and Kandydatky,

As kurinna, I have formed a joint committee of representatives from the NJ Prapor Creation / Sewing Committee, the NJ hurtkova,  the NY Rada Planning Committee, the NY Prapor Povsiachenya Committee, the NY hurtkova and the four members of our kuriinyj provid. We have completed our first schodyny last night and have accomplished the following:

Rada / Povsiatchenya  Prapory Date - The original date of September 30 - October 1, 2011 for our rada will be changed due to a conflict in date with the newly announced / finalized date for the NJ Ukrainian Festival. Since the NJ hurtok is our largest hurtok and very active in the Ukrainian hromada, we have decided to seek an alternate weekend date. We as a kurin are very supportive of the activities and various roles that our members play in the hromada and we are also sensitive to the parenting issues that also arise due to our children's participation in various hromada events such as the upcoming NJ festival. We have already contacted Suzy-Q this morning and are working on determining a new date to be announced as soon as we receive confirmation of availability.

Please look for the new date to be announced shortly.

We will be sending out an electronic Save-the-Date at my request, in order to have a close estimate for the planning of both the rada and the povsichenya. Both events will take place the same weekend at Suzy-Q. The purpose of this is so that our chlenky and kandydatky travel only one time during the year for our one annual rada event. This will reduce both the time factor as well as the individual financial cost to all of us.

Celebrating the the povsiachenya prapory will be a once in the life of our kurin event. We are very excited that all of our chlenky, kandydatky and starshi plastynky may join together to witness and celebrate this moment in the history of Spartanky.

Please stay tuned for further updates.

If anyone has any questions or wishes to share ideas, please reach out to me via email or phone directly and not write mass emails. Thanks for you consideration.

ckob!

The Enviromental Committee is hosting a unique eyeopening event  a week from today at the Cultural Center in Whippany  on Saturday March 12 from 11am-4pm.

"Vanishing of the Bees is a documentary that examines the alarming disappearance of honeybees and the greater meaning  it holds about the relationship between mankind and mother earth."

We invite you to awaken your awareness on this topic as well as share how this touches every one of us and generations to come.

There will be a variety of bee friendly foods ( and invite you to bring your favorite recipe or food item that originates from the hive) and will have pysanka display and all the set up to make a pysanka so we may start "pist" according to our  Ukrainian tradition so dependant on the precious beeswax !!- a gift of the hive.

Please come and join us!  RSVP to Louisa @  kaminskyj@gmail.com

Spartanky are once again running our 1-day Zumova Prohulka for novatstvo for all stannychi on January 23rd, 2011. The posters are attached.

The purpose of this email is multi-fold;

1. To inform you about this event taking place -- it is open to all novatstvo from all stannychi as well as any "samostijni" novaky/novachky.
2. To seek out help running this event -- we need volunteers for the day to make sure the day runs smoothly.
3. To spread the word in your individual stannychi about this event. PLEASE PUT UP FLYERS in your domivka ASAP, distribute both attachments to kids and parents of novatstvo and email the two sheets to the relevant families in your domivka database.
4. To get this information out before the Christmas break so that people can make their plans -- if we wait until after Sviata, New Years, Svichecka and Koliada it will be too late.
5. To attend this event with your families -- your kids,. your nieces, nephews, etc...it's truly lots of fun!

By the way, we purposely avoided doing this prohulka after any of the big Zabava nights to maximize attendance. The location of the venue is at Holiday Mountain near Monticello which is pretty centrally located to Hartford, NYC , NJ, Yonkers, Albany, Syracuse  (Boston may be too far?)

If you have any questions please call me at 203-249-8092 or write me am email message.

Eco for the holidays

Louisa Kaminska

Spartanky, remember to reduce, reuse, and recycle during the holidays!

  • Reuse wrapping paper, bows, ribbons, tissue paper, etc. Also, save gift bags and boxes and reuse them throughout the year. Those you can't reuse, recycle.

  • Recycle your tree. According to the National Christmas Tree Association, there are approximately 25-30 million real Christmas trees sold in North America each year. After the holidays, check with your local municipality for recycling options, drop-off locations or pickup dates.

  • Donate old toys, clothes or unwanted gifts. Start the new year with a clean slate. Donate unwanted gifts along with last year's toys, clothes, or electronics that are still in good shape.

  • Did you get a new TV for Christmas?  See a Consumer's Guide to Recycling Your Old TV. It explains your resources for responsible recycling, and even how you can get valuable coupons for your turned-in TV or converter box.  Also see the TV manufacturer report card that highlights where a manufacturer ranks in their recycling programs.Delete

Andriyivskij Vechir

Petrusia K

It was suggested that Spartanky do Andriyivskij Vechir on Friday December 3 at the Senoiry Gathering, Cultural Center, Whippany.  In the past we have held it on Wed. in lieu of schodyny for yunatsvo.  Last year Yonkers stanycha sent a carload to join us.  I would like to continue the tradition for yunatsvo.  What are your thoughts.  Who is able to help?

Lesia K

Is there going to be an Andriyevsky vechir? I will pass along the info to the Yonkers kids. It's our ski club Christmas party so, unfortunately, I will not be able to help out this year.
